First published in 1929, Faulkner created his "heart's darling", the beautiful and tragic Caddy Compson, whose story Faulkner told through separate monologues by her three brothers: the idiot Benjy, the neurotic suicidal Quentin, and the monstrous Jason.

This is by all accounts a difficult novel and it wasn't easy to listen to on audio. I only got through the first two sections of the book, one told through the random memories of a mentally retarded man and the other told from the fragmented thoughts of a suicidal college kid. I kept rewinding and relistening and reading the cliff notes, but this one isn't good for audio. In parts a straight section emerges which you can follow but then it starts jumping around in time. The themes to the novel sound interesting, but I only really picked those up from cliff notes I read. Narrator Grove Gardner does his best, but I just don't think this makes a good audio book.
