In the hands of Sophocles, the master dramatist, the anguished tale of a man fated to kill his father and marry his mother retains its power to shock and move beyond any Freudian reference. In this new translation, performed by an outstanding cast led by Michael Sheen, the searing inevitability facing Oedipus proves as shocking as it was 2,500 years ago when it was first presented in the theatre at Athens.

I loved this dramatized reading of Sophocles' "Oedipus the King". The performances were way over the top as the play demands and the translation was very easy to follow. Knowing what Oedipus has done, there's also a lot of tragic irony which makes much of what he and the other characters say very funny. The woman who did the voice of Jocasta has to have one of the all time great audio book entrances. And Michael Sheen vocalizes wide dramatic range as he performs the self-revelation of King Oedipus' tragic actions.
