Description

Since the release of his best seller, It's Not About the Bike, Lance Armstrong has enjoyed a new series of thrilling rides, from the birth of his twin daughters, to an astounding succession of Tour de France triumphs, to being chosen as Sportsman of the Year by Sports Illustrated in 2002. Continuing the inspiring story begun in his first book, Every Second Counts captures the mind-set of a man who has beaten incredible odds and considers each day an opportunity for excellence.

Armstrong's previous book recounted his journey from a grim diagnosis of testicular cancer, which had spread to his lungs and brain, to a stunning recovery that culminated in his winning the 1999 Tour de France. It was the ultimate evidence that he had also won a daunting battle with death.

His new book addresses the equally daunting challenge of living in the aftermath of this experience and making the most of every breath of life. Armstrong candidly discusses his prickly relationship with the French and the ultimately disproved accusations of doping within his Tour de France team, and he writes about his recent achievements, including celebrating five years of cancer survival and how he restored a magnificent chapel in his beloved Spain.

A fresh perspective on the spirit of survivors everywhere, Every Second Counts will invigorate and enthrall Armstrong's millions of admirers.

We know the title " Every Second Counts" is dated. Even so, the date is so very current to millions of Americans who are or will be in the same or similar situation.

What grabs me most about your message is that in the midst of the worse sort of physical trouble people can be in, you emerge a victor. Not only that, but a very optimistic and encouraging one.

You're a fighter and a winner. Your children look at you, and they say: " Yes. That's my dad. He's a winner.... either way you put it."

I think God is very much in this picture. Lance, I don't know where you stand in this respect, but this much I do know: God has given you a life and a message which transcends most.

You know (as well as I), this isn't our final stop. There's something beyond this. What I hear, is a guy who knows Jesus, but has had challenges which fostered maybe a doubt or two....a challenge of your faith.

Remember what Jesus said: " I will never leave you nor forsake you." My wife said that, too....a bit more than three years ago.
I feel you there, man. She has done both.

Bottom line is that your "moving on" is inspirational. Your unconditional love for your children, even more.

Yes, this is a conquest in Christ with regard to worldly ramifications of natural sin (inherited), but I'm just asking that you don't lose focus in terms of eternity. One brother to another.

General Content: Lance Armstrong might be the most controversial athlete on the planet. Thereís no denying that his feat of six Tour de France victories is one of the most amazing accomplishment in the history of sports. Still, constants rumors of drug use and his recent divorce and subsequent relationship with Sheryl Crow have often led people to talk about Lance for all of the wrong reasons.

In Every Second Counts, Armstrong has the opportunity to answer many of his critics and he takes full advantage of this. His vehemence towards drug testing officials and the media is a recurring theme throughout the book. Despite the fact that Armstrong can be arrogant at times, youíll likely find yourself rooting for him as you realize the unbelievable odds he has been up against in his life.

The last portion of Every Second Counts was quite remarkable. It described Lanceís ride for his fifth Tour de France victory and why it may have been his most unbelievable win. Youíll certainly be inspired. While the book doesnít go into detail about his separation (and subsequent divorce) of his wife, it does cover a lot of other aspects of his life in great detail. If youíre a fan of cycling youíll love this book. Even if you arenít you will most likely find it uplifting and inspirational.

Audio-Specific Content: I listened to the unabridged (7.5 hours in length) version of this title through Audible.com. This version is read by Stephen Hove who did an excellent job. At times you forget that someone other than Lance is reading it which is kind of cool. And I do like this book in audio format because as you listen to it, itíll give you the motivation to go out for a run or a bike ride. Assuming you have some sort of a portable player to listen to this on, itís the perfect book to listen to while working out.
