The Tibetan Book of the Dead: The Great Liberation (1993) Documentary on Free Online Video

Singer Leonard Cohen hosts this documentary demonstration of how the Tibetan Book of the Dead is used by religious practitioners to help cope with the grieving process. As a Tibetan Monk guides his young adept through the funeral ceremony of a recently deceased man, the viewer is given an animated illustration of how the Bardo Thodol serves as a transitional guide to someone leaving the physical body into a realm of pure (and sometimes terrifying) consciousness. As is evident in the documentary, death in this context is seen not as an end, but as a liberation that allows the cycle of life to continue.
