American Masters is a PBS award-winning biography series which celebrates famous American artists and entertainers. They now offer a podcast that features 20-30 minute long interviews from their archives along with new interviews from their latest episodes. Season One of their podcast was called “Women on Women” and features accomplished women speaking about their predecessors in a variety of fields. There’s Gloria Steinem talking about Marilyn Monroe, Betty White discussing Carol Burnett, Venus Williams and Chris Evert on Billie Jean King, and a number of other interesting episodes. Season Two of the podcast is called “Revolutionary Writers”. You’ll hear interviews from playwrights like Suzan-Lori Parks and Arthur Miller and comedy writers like Mel Brooks and Margaret Cho. In one of their latest episodes they interview horror movie master John Carpenter who discusses his upbringing and career and how he composed his own music for classic films like Halloween. Their latest episode is on horror writer Edgar Allan Poe and features readings by actor Denis O’Hare of Poe’s great poems "The Raven" and "Annabel Lee”.
