    Today on the show we have the head coach of Umass Lacrosse, Greg Canella.Coach Canella has been head coach for 25 season at Umass.This is the second longest tenure at one school among active NCAA coaches.His teams have had 9 NCAA tournament appearances and Eight New England Championships.He’s been a seven-time conference coach of the year and a 5 time New England Coach of the year.In 2006 his team was a National Championship finalist and he was named the 2006 USILA Coach of the Year.Coach Canella graduated from Umass.He coached 4 years as an assistant at Stony Brook before coming back to Umass, and taking over as head coach of the Minutemen.Today on the show we got a chance to talk about how he grew up as part of a lacrosse family on Long Island, how he and staff plan for upcoming seasons, how he run his practices, and much more.The GameChanger Lacrosse Podcast is about talking to people who have dedicated their life to the game of lacrosse and learning about who they are, how they got to where they are today, and what they do to improve themselves and their teams.   • Brian Brecht - Setting the Tone for Rutgers Lacrosse

    Today on the show we have the head coach of Rutgers University Men’s Lacrosse, Brian Brecht.Coach Brechthas over 20 years of college coaching experience.He was named head coach at Rutgers in June, 2011.Rutgers finished the 2018 season with a 9-6 record.They were on the bubble this year, and just missed out on the playoffs.In 2017 Rutgers finished 10-4 and at one point was ranked number one in there nation.In 2016, Rutgers tied it’s record for most wins in a season.Coach Brecht came to Rutgers after coaching at Sienna for seven years.He was named MAAC Coach of the Year 3 times and lead the program to it’s first ever national ranking.Before Siena he was an assistant coach at Loyola, Rutgers, West Point, Upenn, Hartwick and Yorktown High school.Coach Brecht played at Sachem High School on LI and played lacrosse at Springfield College in the mid 90’s.Today we talk about all sorts of things, from how he got his start at coaching, to how he sets the tone for Rutgers lacrosse.The GameChanger Lacrosse Podcast is about talking to people who have dedicated their life to the game of lacrosse and learning about who they are, how they got to where they are today, and what they do to improve themselves and their teams.   • Joe Amplo - Coaching as a Graduate Assistant, Hustling, and Lessons Along the Way to Marquette

    Today on the show we have the head coach of Marquette University Men’s Lacrosse team, Joe Amplo.Coach Amplo just finished his 6th season at Marquette.He’s the program's first ever DI head coach.In just 6 seasons his team already won a Big East championship and had a playoff birth in 2017.He was the Big East coach of the year in 2014.And, he was an assistant coach for Team USA.Coach Amplo started as a graduate assistant at Hofstra, his alma mater, in 1999 - 2001.He then did one year as an assistant at the University of Pennsylvania before coming back to Hofstra where he remained until he was named the head coach of Marquette in 2011.In this interview Coach Amplo talked about how he handled being the assistant coach of a team he just played for; how he hustled to make things work as an assistant at Upenn while still living in NY; and, the lessons he learned along the way to being named the head coach at Marquette University.The GameChanger Lacrosse Podcast is about talking to people who have dedicated their life to the game of lacrosse and learning about who they are, how they got to where they are today, and what they do to improve themselves and their teams.   • Kevin Conry - University of Michigan Head Coach

    Coach Moran is on his second season as the Head Coach of UMBC Men’s Lacrosse. He started off his coaching career at Navy Prep.From there he moved back to his alma-mater as the offensive coordinator at Maryland.HIs offense averaged 11 goals / game over his 6 year period.HIs next move was to Loyola where in 2016 his offense average 12 goals / game.In June of 2016 he took over at UMBC for Coach Zimmerman after 23 years.I spoke with Coach Moran two days before their victory over an undefeated and #1 ranked, Albany.During our call we talked about how he handled coaching the Navy Prep team by himself.What he learned his first few years and Maryland.And how he’s approaching his new challenge at UMBC.Here’s my interview with Coach Moran.

  • John Galloway - Setting the Tone & Building a Strong Culture

    John Galloway is on his second season as the head coach of Jacksonville Men’s Lacrosse.At the time of this recording Jacksonville is current 4 - 4.Coach Galloway was a goal tender at Syracuse University.He has a NCAA record of 59 wins.He was the first 2 time First Team All-American goalie in Syracuse history.He’s also the first goalie in NCAA history to win a national championship in his freshman and sophomore year.In the MLL he was named Rookie of the year for the Rochester Rattlers and in 2014 he was the MLL Goalie of the Year.He’s an MLL All-Star and a member of the 2014 and 2018 US National Team.He started off his coaching career at Providence University where he helped their goalie become the Big East goaltender of the year and All-Big East First team honors.That was the first time in program history that someone from Providence earned that honor.In this convo we talk about things like how he’s trying to establish a strong culture at JU, how he prepares his team week in and week out, and much more.This is a great conversation for young coaches who are trying to build a strong culture and set the tone for their program.Here’s my interview with Coach Galloway.The GameChanger Lacrosse Podcast is about talking to people who have dedicated their life to the game of lacrosse and learning about who they are, how they got to where they are today, and what they do to improve themselves and their teams.   • Chris Rotelli - What it Takes to Become a Great Midfielder

    Lars is coaching his second season as the head coach of UVa Men’s Lacrosse.He comes to Virginia with 12 years of coaching experience.He spent 10 years at Brown, his alma mater.His final year at Brown he led the Bears to a final four appearance and 16 - 3 record.During his time at Brown his teams won an Ivy League title in 2008, 2010, 2015, and 2016.Tiffany was the New England Coach of the Year in 2008, 2009, 2015, and 2016 and was the Ivy League Coach of Year in 2015 and 2016.As of the launch of this episode, UVA is currently 6 - 1.They’re ranked 9 in the nation.In this interview Coach Tiffany and I talk about his journey to becoming a coach.The lessons he learned along the way.Taking over as head coach at UVa.     On this episode we have UNC assistant coach, Dave Metzbower.Coach Metzbower graduated from the University of Delaware in 1986.After graduating from UD, he joined the Blue Hens’ coaching staff and spent 1987-1989 on the sidelines in Newark.In 1990, Metzbower joined the Princeton staff as the top assistant to head coach Bill Tierney and helped create dynamic offenses that averaged 181.6 goals per year over a 20-season span.Metzbower helped the Tigers win six NCAA championships, reach the NCAA semifinals 10 times and advance to the NCAA quarterfinals on 16 occasions.During Metzbower’s tenure, the Tigers won 14 Ivy League titles while achieving a cumulative 230-65 record.He helped develop the top five goal scorers in Princeton history, the top four in career points, 22 All-Ivy League attackmen, seven Ivy League Players of the Year, 27 first-team All-Americas and 74 All-Ivy League first-team selections. Under Metzbower, Kevin Lowe (1994) and John Hess (1997) won the Lt. Col. J.L. Turnbull Award as the outstanding attackman in Division I, and Josh Sims twice won the Lt.
