The Left, Right, and Center podcast is produced by KCRW, which is a California radio station. This show features a regular panel of three hosts, one whose views lean to the right of the political scale, one who leans left, and one who is in the center. The show is about 30 minutes long, and usually the panel discusses only one or two issues.

I really enjoy this podcast. I find that each host gets pretty much equal airtime, which makes for a great, balanced presentation unlike many of the news talk shows out there. In addition, it's fairly common these days for political talk shows featuring advocates from opposite sides of the scale to devolve into little more than shouting matches. That doesn't happen on this show. The hosts are both well-spoken and well-mannered. This should definitely be one of your top political podcast choices.

About a year ago I used to sit and wait in my car for "KCRW's Left, Right, and Center" to air here in Los Angeles. Every Friday I'd try to tune in at 7 PM but a lot of times I was doing something else or I'd forget. It was such an entertaining and intelligent political show, but I think I basically gave up on it because I just could not fit it into my schedule. Then came podcasting and I can listen to it whenever I want, whereever I want.

And it's an excellent podcast. I love Arianna Huffington and her biting comments on the latest failures of our politicians, and I also really like all the other speakers on here. Matthew Miller does an excellent job moderating the frequently heated debates. Robert Scheer comes up with the typical liberal comments, and Tony Blankley is a very sensible conservative who has his own opinions and argues them very strongly. In terms of debating our current political events, it doesn't get much better than "Left, Right, & Center".

This week, Matt, Bob, and Arianna discuss what the bail out plan includes and what it's missing (home owner bail outs, according to Bob), while Tony isn't so sure a bail out is a productive solution. Once again, the four discuss whether or not the crisis was caused by deregulation, with Tony stating that deregulation peaked during the Clinton years. As for tonight's debate...

This week Fannie Mae and Freddie Mac were essentially nationalized. And Lehman Brothers has gone belly up with talk of the taxpayers bearing the cost. Today Bob, Matt and Tony take on the question of whether deregulation created this scenario wherein which the federal government is bailing out America’s housing market…and of course, there’s plenty of disagreement to go around. Then: Sarah Palin gets her primetime spotlight...

Today’s show is likely to engender a good deal of discussion because we get into the question of the liberal media and how Republicans have been able to use that accusation so successfully for so long. Tony says it’s been extraordinary week, and an election campaign without precedent, but “we don’t know yet whether Palin will be gold dust or Kryptonite to McCain. Assuming that there is nothing completely shocking in her background, it’s clear a new star was born"...

John McCain exploded the news agenda today with his surprising choice of running mate Sarah Palin, Governor of Alaska. The news nearly blew Obama's speech and the Democratic Convention right out of the headlines. Is she "Hillary's worst nightmare" or was her selection a brilliant move to wrest those alienated blue-collar women away over to the Republicans? Also, the Democrats' week in review.

Is Russia honoring its deadline to pull out of Georgia? A very substantive and fascinating discussion of how to deal with Russia ensues with Tony insisting that Russia be punished and temporarily banned from the G8, and that the country must be dealt with firmly but reasonably and Bob disagreeing quite vehemently, wondering about the double standard in effect between Russia’s Georgia venture and the US venture in Iraq...

Russia continues to occupy Georgia and doesn't appear to be backing down. Is this Georgia's fault? Instead of windsurfing in Hawaii, should Obama have been making daily press statements, in a suit, with flags waving behind him? Also, the big debate about the Clintons at the Convention.
