Amazing Women
Stories of women who inspire all.
"Amazing Women" includes these 6 half-hour segments:
1. The inspiring life of Helen Keller is recreated through her own words plus comments by those who knew her, including Anne Bancroft, who won an Academy Award for her portrayal in “The Miracle Worker.”
2. Facing a dual affliction of deafness and blindness, Keller in her adult years campaigned tirelessly as a champion of the disabled. We learn how a philosophy of optimism “in spite of all” sustained her through a challenging life.
3. A moving documentary about Mae Bertha Carter , mother of thirteen, whose family risked their lives to integrate public schools in the Mississippi Delta and who taught her family a lesson about perseverance and transcending hatred.
4.The story of what happened to a group of inner city 1st graders in Oakland, CA who were told in 1987 by Mrs.Oral Lee Brown , a local realtor, that she’d pay for their college education, if they graduated from high school.
5. The tale of Granny D (Mrs. Doris Haddock), recorded here in her 90's, who feels campaign finance “corruption” is ruining our democracy and, to arouse citizen response, walked across America for the sake of her great-grandchildren.
6. Granny D’s on-the-road encounters with citizens, her meetings with members of Congress, her Harvard speech about the Supreme Court, and comments while relaxing at her home by a stream in the New Hampshire woods.
