LearnOutLoud.com Review
In this interview with Studs Terkel, Woody Allen is asked about his comedic style early in his career. Woody admits that he is the lovable loser who gets laughs when something bad happens to him. He wishes he were a more aggressive comedian like Groucho Marx, but acknowledges that his personality is better suited for being the one acted upon. Woody states his ambitions to become a filmmaker. At the time, he had just written the screenplay for What's New Pussycat? (1965). Woody wanted to act and direct comedies for adults like Charlie Chaplin or the Marx Brothers. Throughout the interview, Woody cracks jokes and gets Studs laughing.
