In this 1997 interview, Terry Gross talks to Johnny Cash about his career. He had just released his memoir Cash: The Autobiography and had success with his album American Recordings produced by Rick Rubin. In the interview, Cash leads us through his career from his early days touring with Elvis to his famous prison concerts and how they came about. Cash also talks about his collaboration with producer Rick Rubin, which led him to be discovered by a new generation. Throughout the interview, hits from Cash's career are played, along with selections from the 1994 American Recordings album. It's great to hear Cash's baritone voice as he discusses memories from his life.
