This is no mere book of reminiscences. It is a biography more orderly than Chesterton ever wrote of other men. In it he gives us details of his childhood, marriage, family, great alliance with Belloc, his patriotism, the genesis of the Father Brown mysteries, and his conversion. In terms of biography, it is a paradigm. Given Chesterton’s reputation for being the greatest wit in modern history, it is not surprising that this book is one of the funniest ever written as well as one of the most glorious.
