Description

"It was the best of times, it was the worst of times." So begins the novel considered one of Dickens's most outstanding works. A Tale of Two Cities is a heartbreaking story of selfless love set within the historical drama of Paris and London at the height of the French Revolution. Dickens wrote with the performance aspect in mind and often gave dramatized readings of his works onstage to tremendous critical acclaim. Richard Pasco carries on this Dickensian legacy in an outstanding performance. A Cover to Cover Unabridged Classic.

Charles Dickens (1812-1870) took up journalism at age 22 and joined a London newspaper. In 1836 his Sketches by Boz and Pickwick Papers were published. He worked relentlessly, producing many successful novels that created a gallery of notable characters and also campaigned against many of the social evils of his time. His novels have subsequently been adapted for theater, cinema, radio, and television.

Richard Pasco has appeared with most of the major theater companies in Great Britain and throughout the world, including the Royal Shakespeare Company, with which he spent five years. He has appeared in numerous films such as Mrs. Brown and The Watcher in the Woods, and his television work includes the PBS Mystery series Inspector Morse. He is frequently heard on British radio, and he has recorded many audiobooks including The Epic of Gilgamesh, Frankenstein, The Aeneid, and The Canterbury Tales. He has also taught and lectured on Shakespearean acting.

"A Dickens story for winter listening is traditional, and Cover to Cover's unabridged Tale of Two Cities tops the list this year. Richard Pasco's glorious reading warms the heart."
