Description

The Last Man is an early post-apocalyptic science fiction novel by Mary Shelley, which was first published in 1826. The book tells of a future world that has been ravaged by a plague. The plague gradually kills off all people. Lionel Verney, central character, son of a nobleman who gambled himself into poverty, finds himself immune after being attacked by an infected "negro," and copes with a civilization that is gradually dying out around him.

I started listening to this book. The intro was great but as soon as I got to chapter 1 I could not listen for more than 3 minutes. Lizzie's recording could not be listened to. EVERY SENTENCE was pronounced as a question. The rising inflection at the end of EVERY SINGLE SENTENCE was just more than I could take. It just made no sense at all. Lizzie has since recorded MANY other books and her style has improved immensely! This early recording however could certainly use a new recording. It's a shame I will likely not ever get to the rest of this book unless I take the time to read the first chapter myself.
