In this lecture, secular humanist Daniel C. Dennett takes an inventory of the good things religion still provides for human beings in the 21st century, including charity organizations that cultivate hope and love for marginalized people and an infrastructure for moral teamwork that tends to support justice all over the world. However, Dennett still feels we could do without the irrational dogma, xenophobia, guilt, and systemic hypocrisy that have come to be associated with organized religion in recent years. Thus, Dennett believes that humanists can borrow from the tool-house of religion, utilizing the best methods to bring comfort and aid to humanity. He cites organizations like TED as being a great example of what a world where the non-religious could help bolster goodness, social justice, and community without a religious framework as the guiding principle.
