Listen to a recording of Muhammad Ali speaking at UCLA in 1968. Ali was not only one of the greatest boxers of all time, but he was also a charismatic speaker, as this public speech proves. This talk was delivered a few years after Ali's refusal to be drafted into the military which caused him to be stripped of his boxing titles. The theme of Ali's talk is on the intoxication of life and the various ways in which man is intoxicated in his pursuits and pleasures. After giving some common sense life lessons, Ali recites two of his poems which are from the perspective of a fighting Black Panther. He then fields questions, including a fiery exchange over his feelings on the late Malcolm X.
