Description

The book recounts Mr. McCourt's childhood in Brooklyn, New York, and in Limerick, Ireland, where his family returned after giving up hope for success in the United States. His father was an alcoholic who at times spent the majority of his paycheck on alcohol, leaving his family hungry. Mr. McCourt writes about this as well as seeing three siblings die prematurely because of starvation or disease. The author also talked about the gift of storytelling that his father gave him which has resulted in a career spent writing, along with his brother and fellow author, Malachy McCourt. This is Mr. McCourt's first book. Pictures of his family and a video clip were also shown.

Life at every step is a challenge

Life at every step is a challenge. Mr. McCourt is a living example of this statement. He has suffered a lot in his childhood and has gone through a phase which no one in this wants to go through. He lived in poverty and miserably and watched his family going through worse.

In his book Angela’s Ashes he describes his helplessness in helping out his family in a bad time. His father was an alcoholic and like every alcoholic paid the least attention to his family. As a result Mr. McCourt watched his sibling die at an early stage of their lives. They didn’t had any money as whole of the amount was used by his father for drinking alcohol. All Mr. McCourt had was a gift of writing which he got from his father.
