LearnOutLoud.com Review
This biographical documentary takes a look at the life of French philosopher Michel Foucault, whose theories on the relationship between power and the history of ideas helped bring about a new perspective on how to access historical knowledge. Foucault's work focused on madness, sexual deviancy, drug use, and other forms of extreme behavior as a means of exploring how culture shapes, and limits the patterns of "normal" behavior. Ultimately, he questioned if civilization really made human beings more civilized, and if progress really meant we were getting better. At the time of his death in 1984 of AIDS, Foucault was one of the most famous intellectuals in the world, and his lifelong critique of power continues to influence modern thinking on inequality, sexuality, and human rights.
