Author Siddhartha Mukherjee won the Pulitzer Prize for his first book published in 2010 entitled Emperor of All Maladies: A Biography of Cancer. In this talk at the Harvard Book Store, Mukherjee recounts one of the most important stories from his book. He tells the story of pediatric pathologist Sidney Farber who developed chemotherapy to fight leukemia in the 1940s and 50s. Farber's discoveries and his subsequent cancer research advocacy led to the modern "war on cancer" and the many ways that cancer is viewed in a contemporary context. It's just one of many stories he skillfully tells in his 600-page book on the centuries-old history of cancer, which affects tens of millions of people worldwide every year.
