LearnOutLoud.com Review
In this moving documentary, veterans from the Civil War, two World Wars, Vietnam, and those involved in the current War on Terror tell how the horrors of war have left lasting, sometimes fatal emotional scars. The term Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (or PTSD) has recently become the go-to term used for the extreme stress of living in a daily combat zone, but as this program demonstrates, what was once called "combat fatigue" or "shell-shock" has been a prevailing, often debilitating side-effect of war from the beginning. As one grieving mother of a son lost to suicide explains and another returned vet echoes, many former soldiers have a hard time reconciling with what they've seen and what they've done. At a time when the mainstream military establishment slowly grapples with the fallout of what soldiers are put through, these men and women offer a vivid, sometimes graphic portrait of the depths many soldiers are asked to plumb in order to serve their country. Warning: This documentary has some graphic violence.
