In this talk at Google, D.T. Max talks about his biography of author David Foster Wallace called Every Love Story Is a Ghost Story. Max reads an excerpt from his book about when Wallace was 29 years old and entered a halfway house to deal with his depression and addiction to alcohol and marijuana. Much of Wallace's encyclopedic novel Infinite Jest was informed by his experiences in the halfway house. Max answers questions after the reading related to Wallace's complicated relationship with fame, his struggle to write his final novel The Pale King, and the adoration of "Saint David" that followed his suicide in 2008. It's an interesting talk about a complex writer, who Max was obviously obsessed with.
