The View From The End Of The World by Sam Harris on Free Online Video

In this lecture presented on streaming video by The Long Now Foundation, Author Sam Harris argues that religion has a bad habit of obstructing human progress. Taking on this taboo subject without a filter, Harris says religion is so inherently divisive that it's basically inevitable that conflict will continually arise over differing beliefs. He goes on to claim that there is a conflict between science and religion, in that science promotes free dialogue, whereas in his view, religion allows a person to step away from any notion that challenges their belief. Despite these criticisms, Harris allows that religion has done more to address the mysteries of life than science historically has, and that it is imperative that other traditions, such as those derived from the east be investigated with a more open mind.
