The lectures are pretty clear without visuals, however you need to see some of them like the h-r diagrams. You can see the course notes here:

It is exceedingly rare to find a podcast on any science subject that doesn't fill you with sudden and uncontrollable narcolepsy. I drive all night long and I listen to this podcast almost every night. Not only is the content fascinating, but Professor Pogge's delivery of this subject shows his passion, rare insight, and understanding of it. As a "lifelong learner", I've taken classes on art, history, mythology, philosophy, biology, as well as many others. I seldom find them as enjoyable as this one. I highly recommend it.

If you have a basic understanding of the physics and an interest in the astronomy this is an excellent overview of the universe. A little www work will find examples of some of the charts and images Richard refers to (although his descriptions are sufficient almost all of the time).

I particularly liked the simplicity of podcasting lectures as is. I wish that more professors would share their life's work with the rest of us as Richard Poggle has. The nation (and world) needs more podcasts like this.
