Richard Shell Talk on Springboard

With his book Springboard, Richard Shell has used both his personal biography and career as a teacher to investigate the differing ways we define success in the modern world. In this lecture hosted on the Google campus, Shell comes to the conclusion that "Success" is a moving target that has to be defined by the individual before seeking it out. For one person, a successful life may be determined largely by health, for another it may be found through lasting love and for yet another it may come solely through professional advancement. At the end of the lecture, Shell has the audience rate six different "life models" from best to worst, demonstrating just how shifty it can be for a random group of people to peg what it means to be happy, healthy and successful.
