Instead of focusing on the activity of the static brain, we need to realize that what goes on in our head is a constantly evolving process, that takes place on both a mental and measurably physical level. Thus, SiegelвЂ™s work advocates looking at mental health as an integrated system that includes our internal mental processes, our nervous system and our external relationships. To promote health in such a system, Siegel says we have to place higher value on harmony, equilibrium, and adaptability; all of which lead to more energy, greater flexibility, and finer integration.
