Airline Security: Where Are We?

In a streaming video lecture presented by MIT World, the always charismatic Arnold Barnett uses statistical data to gauge whether or not airline security has improved in the wake of 9/11. Barnett goes over the pros and cons of what major airlines have added to their security measures but also gives special attention to the telling provisions that were taken away. What you learn here may be surprising, as Barnett thoroughly illustrates through various examples why traveling by air, while safer in many ways, is still unquestionably a risk.

Endurance

This fabulous account of Sir Ernest Shackelton's epic adventure recreates one of the most astonishing feats of exploration and human courage ever recorded. In August, 1914, the Endurance set sail for the South Atlantic. In October, 1915, still half a continent away from its intended base, the ship was trapped, then crushed in the ice. For five months Shackelton and his men, drifting on ice packs, were castaways in one of the most savage regions of the world.
