Spencer and Lisa Ashby Audio

My wife started listing to and reading about Dave Ramsey four years ago. She would always tell me all the great things Dave teaches. We were not on the same page. I was so focused on trying to bring in more money instead of controlling what was going out. We had yet to implement his philosophy in full, until about eight months ago. ‘Why did it take so long,” you ask? Me, the husband, and my enormous ego.

My wife and I have been through a traumatic yet very humbling experiences with our finances. In a two year period starting in 2004, we lost a mortgage business, our dream home due to foreclosure, had to fight a bogus law suite against me of 1.5 million dollars, among other things. Because of the stress, my wife and two wonderful boys were getting ready to experience a crushing blow to the family – Divorce.

To this day I’m amazed at how we got though it all. Only now have we realized that God had big plans for our future. This is also amazing considering that at that time we wanted absolutely nothing to do with God. Several years later after trying to wing it with Dave’s system we finally found our bottom. Because we weren’t disciplined with the cash system, we used the debit card too many times and found our selves over $1,000 in the red. Stupid, I know.

Now that we found our bottom, we are sick and tired of being sick and tired. In April of this year I came up with an idea to give us accountability in our quest to become debt free. Lisa and I started a podcast called Rebound: Life After Foreclosure. When we started, the idea of a switch being turned on and us on the high road to eliminating over $60,000 of dept seemed ludicrous. It still does sometimes. We had to really have a come to Jesus moment to discover who we are and where we want to go. My wanting to become selfless was the true commitment that was needed in order for us to achieve our debt free goals.

We have made approximately 8 episodes. It hasn’t been easy but we are determined and committed to motivate and inspire other people including ourselves to achieve Debt Freedom. To whom ever is reading this, I want to tell you that getting out of debt isn’t easy. In fact, it’s very hard, especially if your spouse is not on the same page as you. You will find that trying to change your life’s day to day routines is challenging. What I have to say is Don’t Give Up!!!. You will see a light at the end of the tunnel Stay focused, and always imagine what you would be doing when you are debt free. Do your best to stay in line with Gods will and have faith. Make these changes in your life and I promise that you will reach your goals.
