In the film, he plays a father struggling for survival in a post-apocalyptic world. The 51-year-old Mortensen is probably best known for his portrayal of Aragorn in Lord of the Rings movies. He is featured in The People Speak, a new documentary based on Howard Zinn's People's History of the United States, which debuts on the History Channel this month. Senior editor Michael Mechanic spoke with Mortensen about activism, rabid fans, throwing his cell phone out the window, and eating bugs with his with his 13-year-old co-star, Kodi Smit-McPhee.
