The Austrian composer Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart lived between 1756 to 1791, and was by far well known for his contributions to classical music. His music was analyzed in the teaching company course entitled “Chamber Music of Mozart” by Professor Richard Greene of University of California at Berkeley.
Professor Richard Greene sought to present an enormous and difficult task ahead of him by compiling the lectures within his course, and he succeeded. What was interesting during the course of these lectures, was how many different styles or genres of music influenced what Mozart composed, or was influenced by Mozart’s compositions.
The lectures started off with an introduction to the composer and his life. Then it quickly jumped feet first into the task at hand, which was analyzing as much of Mozart’s chamber music as possible.
The most enjoyable lectures were the ones on Haydn’s influences on Mozart’s compositions and the “Piano Quartets” which were completed in the later part of Mozart’s life. Anyone who has ever listened to Mozart’s Quartet’s will know what a joy they are to listen to. This course will be thoroughly enjoyed by lovers of classical music and Mozart. The lectures were available on eight audio tapes.
