Description

Today is Radio 4's flagship news and current affairs programme. It is widely considered the most significant news broadcast in the UK, and numbers among its listeners most of the country's politicians, opinion-formers and journalists. Number 10 Downing Street - the Prime Minister's residence - records the entire three-hour programme each day, and since its inception every Prime Minister has appeared on the programme from Tony Blair to Harold Macmillan . Former presenter, the late Brian Redhead dubbed it "the newspaper of the airwaves", and said "If you want to drop a word in the ear of the nation, then this is the programme in which to do it."

News and analysis

Today-BBC podcast is BBC Radio 4's highly esteemed news and analysis program. It is hosted by Robin Aitken and John Humphrys, both of whom conduct each session commendably. The podcast is broadcast through the week, and features important news, analyses and interviews.

For example, the October 10 and 11 podcasts report on the devastating earthquake that hit Pakistan. In the former, BBC reporter Andrew North is on the ground in Balakot, Pakistan, in front of a school in which many children are feared dead. We can hear the sound of a relief helicopter in the background. The report also has an interview with a British High Commissioner in Islamabad describing the situation and relief measures. In the October 11 podcast, Pakistan's minister and Salvano Briceno of the UN are interviewed for updates on the situation.

Each broadcast gives the listener in-depth reportage, analyses and interviews. It gives us the news in a short yet comprehensive manner. I would recommend this podcast to everybody interested in trustworthy reporting of current affairs.
